A Class Action Lawsuit is a form of litigation in which one (or more) person(s) seeks to help a group of people who have suffered from the same wrongdoing. Rules around the county allow one individual to represent a large group of people to collectively bring a claim against a common defendant. Typically, the individual bringing the claim has suffered economic harm as a result of an illegal action, improper policy, or product defect. By combining all of these individuals’ complaints into a group, or “class action”, individual plaintiffs who otherwise might not be able to afford their own representation or who have only suffered a small amount of damages are able to seek compensation by way of a collective lawsuit.
